• Wellness? Wellbeing? What's the difference?

WELLNESS describes all the different ways that you can achieve and sustain optimal physical health across your lifespan. You know that you have physical wellbeing when you have the energy, strength, and endurance to do the things you need and want to do. To achieve  physical wellbeing, you need to be able to get enough good quality sleep, be physically active, and enjoy eating a healthy diet. If you live with a chronic  health condition, such as arthritis or heart disease, you can still have wellness if you manage your symptoms with minimal discomfort and prevent them from getting worse.

  • WELLBEING is the psychological complement to physical wellness. It means that you frequently experience positive emotions and moods, such as contentment, happiness and you rarely suffer from depression, anxiety and anger. Your positivity is nourished by satisfying relationships. You feel content with your life overall, and your life has meaning and purpose.

According to positive psychologists, you need to have both wellness and wellbeing to flourish. Flourish wellness/wellbeing coaching addresses both of these key life areas. Wellness coaching is oriented around the principles of Tom Raths’ book Eat, Move, Sleep. Wellbeing coaching incorporates mindfulness and relaxation strategies to improve resilience, as well as emotional freedom techniques (EFT-Tapping) to address underlying emotional blocks to life satisfaction. Clients are also encouraged to explore how using apps and online social support networks can help keep them on track.
